The redesigned Ford F-150 won the 2009 Truck of the Year Award, surpassing the Dodge Ram and Mercedes-Benz ML320 BlueTEC in the contest. For 27 years Ford’s F-150 was the top-selling vehicle in America, managing to stay afloat in 2008 in spite of a slump in truck sales and the economic recession.

2009-f150-xltThe 2009 Ford F-150 is redesigned, gaining in increased power, cabin space, and various new features. The F-150 chassis is light-weight to meet improved fuel economy ratings and safety improvements. The truck won a Top Safety Pick Award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Another enduring feature is its best-in-class trailer-towing capability of 11,300 lbs. across all cabs.

Following the lead of other automakers from Detroit, Ford has also been re-working its strategy to focus more on fuel-efficient cars rather than trucks. Ford expects to woo customers with the launching of the 2010 Ford Taurus at the Detroit Auto Show this season. While being deemed 2009 Truck of the Year does not necessarily translate into increasing sales figures for the Ford F-150, it is reassuring that the Ford has been the only automaker not to request federal funding to stave off bankruptcy.

The eagerly awaited 2010 Shelby GT500 willl be displayed at the Detroit Auto show running Saturday, January 17 through Sunday, January 25, 2009. With the introduction of its redesigned 2010 Shelby GT500, Ford invests in a high-end performance model at a time when most competitors are changing tack with such models.

Ford MustangThe GT500 features increased horsepower, an aggressive new exterior fascia, improved interiors, performance enhancements and a leap in horsepower for the 2010 model year. The GT500 is powered by the specially tuned supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine that makes 540 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 510 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm.

A new cold-air intake pulls in air from the upper front grille to generate an increase in power. The Cobra emblem now features on the passenger side so as not to hinder the air intake. The new model also wears Goodyear's Eagle F1 Supercar tires, 19-inches for the coupe and 18-inches on the convertible version. Ford says that the 2010 GT500 model delivers a 10 percent improvement in highway fuel economy returning around 22 mpg highway.

Karl Brauer, editor in chief at Edmunds.com. said that investing money on a niche sports car would help Ford distinguish itself from General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC, which are dependent upon federal assistance to get ahead. The GT500 is expected to generate excitement when it hits dealer showrooms in 2009, just about the same time that GM plans to launch the Chevrolet Camaro. The 2010 Shelby GT500 will go on sale in early spring 2009.

Ford Motor Company submitted a comprehensive business plan to Congress, outlining a request for a stop-gap bridge loan in the event of a downturn in the current economic crisis.

Elaborating on the company’s plans to return to profitability, Ford provided information about a full battery electric vehicle (BEV) in a van-type vehicle for commercial fleet use in 2010 and a BEV sedan in 2011, as part of its strategy to electrify a family of hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles.

America’s favorite muscle car for 45 years, the Ford Mustang still goes by the same recognizable sheet metal as did its earlier generations. For 2010, Ford designers have given the car a more muscular, sculpted profile with improved aerodynamics and a curvy beltline.

Ford MustangPricing information for the new standard V6-powered 2010 Ford Mustang offers excellent value with Base price reportedly starting at $21,845 (including delivery). By comparison, the Camaro, its closest rival, starts at $22,995 and the Dodge Challenger, Base SE stickers at $22,545. Both, the Dodge Challenger and the Camaro feature a standard V6 engine; the Challenger gets only a four-speed automatic, while the others offer manual shifts.

The new Mustang will retain its forward-canted grille and inset headlamps. The hood features a “power-dome” contour in the center; a ridge streaks back to the A-pillar; and the edge of the hood curves over its nose. While the 2005 Mustang was criticized for its cheap plastic, the 2010 makes up for it; all interior plastic surfaces are now soft to the touch and pleasing to the eye, with aluminum trim adding some ‘bling’. The base 4.0L V6 remains unchanged for 2010; the 2010 GT keeps its 4.6L three-valve V8, now rated for 315 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque.

Ford’s all-new improved Mustang and its tempting pricing is the best bet for anyone who wants some top-down muscle car driving fun.

Ford’s popular F-150 pickup truck is back with a bang, in a new, more fuel-efficient version. The automaker is relying on the truck’s improved mileage to attract customers, against a backdrop of high fuel costs, a credit crisis and a downturn in the U.S. economy.

2009 Ford F 150Rising fears about economic instability have plunged U.S. auto sales in to a 15-year decline, and truck sales are at the bottom of the heap. Truck sales decreased 39 percent in September, as buyers looked for transport solutions in small fuel-efficient cars. According to Ken Czubay, vice president of U.S. sales and marketing, “the timing of the new truck is perfect; it will serve work needs with its superior fuel economy, as well as provide value".

While Ford officials were aware of the challenges of launching the new truck in a shaky market, they thought that loyal customers would once again settle for the F-150’s better fuel economy and wait for an upswing in the economy.  Regardless of the state of the economy, the truck business was important to transporters in America.

Czubay also said that once Congress approved of the proposed $700 billion in Federal loans, the bailout would “have a very important psychological effect” on potential buyers. Ford’s new F-150 delivers an 8 percent increase in mileage across the entire F-150 lineup. EPA rates fuel economy at 14/20 mpg (city/highway) compared with 13/17 mpg (city/highway) for the 2008 model. Light steel construction, better aerodynamics, a new six-speed transmission, fuel injection and an auto fuel shut-off, allows for much better fuel economy on the F-150.

The Detroit Three got a major reprieve on September 24th, as the House of Representatives approved $25 billion in loans as part of a bail out plan for the beleaguered American auto industry. Following this decision, the Energy Department, is in the process of determining rules and regulations to govern the disbursement of these loans.

FordThe big trio of American automakers which include General Motors Corporation, Chrysler LLC and Ford Motor Company, have been appealing to the federal government for assistance, in an effort to save their companies from collapsing. Saturday’s approval of $25 billion in low-interest loans will give the U.S. auto industry a much needed boost, to help rework its vehicles.

For more than three years now, the American auto industry has been trying to stay afloat, even as foreign automakers have been eating into large chunks of the overseas market pie. The faltering US economy has driven the Detroit Three over the edge. The $25 billion bail out, is the largest federal aid ever offered to the U.S. auto industry. While industry officials say the loans will help them to a certain extent to build more efficient models, Michigan lawmakers cite financial woes as a reason to seek an additional $25 billion after the elections.

Ford FocusFord Motor Company will convert the Michigan Truck plant in Wayne manufacturing the Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition SUVs, to small cars in 2010 following the demand for its small cars. The demand for Ford Motor Company’s Focus and other small cars has gone up ever since the gas prices soared up.

Ford, to meet this demand, has announced that it would sink $75 million into the body-making part of an SUV factory next door to the Wayne Assembly plant, where the Focus is built. If the demand sustains strong, the SUV plant will quickly start manufacturing Focus bodies. Ford intends to utilize the SUV factory’s 1,000 workers to the Focus plant in January to add a third crew to production lines, which would help to boost their production.

This is a part of Ford’s effort to shift three factories from trucks to cars as the demand for small cars is increasing. In fact, Ford temporarily closed Michigan Truck for 10 weeks during the summer due to falling demands. According to Bill Russo, Ford’s director of manufacturing operations, the Michigan Truck plant can be converted, at a relatively small expense, to make small-car bodies.
