Porsche CaymanThe next generation mid-engined Porsche's Cayman sports coupe comes with increased power and efficiency thanks to the new, flat-six 'boxer' engines. The Cayman has an engine displacing 2.9-liters rated at 265 bhp (a 20 per cent increase over the earlier 2.7-litre model). And the 3.4-liter drive train in the Cayman S pumps out a massive 325 bhp, a 25 bhp more than the earlier model. Not only this, the power-to-weight ration of 4.2 kg/bhp on the Cayman S, in particular, ensures the optimum driving dynamics. Automobile dealers probably experienced their worst slump in sales, for more than 16 years, in October 2008. Making up for lost ground, most car manufacturers are offering buyers some attractive deals this month. Dealers are in a race to sell off 2008 models, even as more 2009 models roll into dealer lots, at year end. General Motors has its Red Tag Event; Toyota, had its first-ever zero percent financing offer; Nissan has zero percent financing on popular models and the latest to join the list of manufacturers offering discounts currently, is BMW. Ford Motor Company will convert the Michigan Truck plant in Wayne manufacturing the Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition SUVs, to small cars in 2010 following the demand for its small cars. The demand for Ford Motor Company’s Focus and other small cars has gone up ever since the gas prices soared up.

 

Ford, to meet this demand, has announced that it would sink $75 million into the body-making part of an SUV factory next door to the Wayne Assembly plant, where the Focus is built. If the demand sustains strong, the SUV plant will quickly start manufacturing Focus bodies. Ford intends to utilize the SUV factory’s 1,000 workers to the Focus plant in January to add a third crew to production lines, which would help to boost their production.

 

This is a part of Ford’s effort to shift three factories from trucks to cars as the demand for small cars is increasing.…

The award-winning 2008 Saab 9-X BioHybrid concept will be on display at the Washington Times Car Show on Sunday, August 31. The event is organized by automotive journalist Vern Parker of the Washington Times and will take place in the Spring Hill Recreation Center near McLean, Virginia, West of Washington, D.C.  The Washington Times Car Show is a huge event displaying new makes and models of cars, trucks, mini-vans and sport utility vehicles. The latest innovations in alternative fuels will take center stage at the 2008 Washington Auto Show. The Saab 9-X BioHybrid was voted “Best Concept” by AutoWeek Magazine after its world debut at the Geneva auto show in March 2007. A jury of 25 North American automotive journalists lauded it as “Specialty Concept Car of the Year” at an award ceremony in June 2007, at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, Michigan.
